Credit

Credit is defined as: An arrangement for deferred payment of a loan or purchase. For example, a store that offers credit; bought my stereo on credit.

Credit

Using your credit card seems like such a good idea. You can buy things you wouldn't normally buy! The false sense of security comes from the assumed assurance that you'll have enough money to cover your purchases - doing things like renting a car, a hotel room or the purchase of airfare, etc. And if you're responsible enough to put all of your monthly purchases on your credit card, your statement is an easy way for you to track what you spend each month. However, many times people abuse their credit. They max out their credit cards, then open new ones and max those out until finally, they are no longer allowed to open new cards. Most credit card companies want you to carry high balances that you can't afford to pay in full each month. That way, they can tack on finance charges in addition to the already high interest rates. So how do you take control of your credit instead of letting your credit control you? Through one of any number of debt management programs with a credit counseling concentration.

Credit Consolidation

Credit consolidation is probably the most popular debt management program around. Here's how it works: You hire a credit consolidation company and they will negotiate with your creditors to get your balances and interest rates reduced. Then they combine all those new, lower balances into one, and you make one monthly payment to the credit consolidation company instead of several monthly payments to your creditors. Some credit card consolidation companies will require you to stop using the credit cards that are being consolidated, which is actually a good thing. They might also suggest that you get credit counseling. This is excellent advice, because that will teach you how to budget and live within your means so that you don't have to resort to using credit, and it will teach you how to use credit wisely in the event that you need to use it at all. That way, you can avoid incurring more debt in the future.

Check out a credit consolidation program today and give yourself credit for taking charge of your finances.
